The parish of Chobham is proud of the history of the village and its continuing sense of community. Chobham was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and its story long predates that. Today the ward of Chobham is part of the borough of Surrey Heath Borough Council.
Chobham Parish Council together with Surrey Heath Borough Council and Surrey County Council together look after the interests of the village. The Parish Council maintains the land at Benhams Corner, Cannon Corner and St Lawrence Churchyard. It provides the hanging baskets, planters, the Christmas tree and lights throughout the village. The Parish Council also has responsibility for Jubilee Mount on Chobham Common. Another amenity it takes care of is the old public telephone box situated outside the Village Hall which is converted into the Chobham Book Exchange. The Parish Council maintains the village cemetery which is located behind the High Street.
Recreation Ground
The Parish Council acting as the sole managing trustee of the Chobham Recreation Ground Charitable Trust manages and cares for the facilities at the Village recreation ground.
Planning matters
An important part of the Parish Council’s work is Planning, which relates to development and changes to land and buildings. The Parish Council has a statutory right to be consulted on planning applications within the parish. While decisions on applications are made by Surrey Heath Borough Council (the Local Planning Authority), the Parish Council’s comments are taken into account as part of the process. Applications and other Planning matters are considered at Planning Committee meetings, which are open to members of the public and usually held every three weeks. The Parish Council employs a Planning Co-ordinator who reviews applications affecting the parish and supports Councillors over a range of Planning matters. Other Village Organisations
The Parish Council is also represented by one or more councillors on the committees of many village organisations.
Chobham Parish Council comprises nine elected members and the current Council was elected in May 2023 to serve for four years (until May 2027).
The Parish Church of St Lawrence and St Saviours at Valley End has its own Parochial Church Council and its own office and administrator who can be contacted here.
